Hearing Aids

The key to success on your path to better hearing is dealing with a locally owned practice that has been serving the Evansville area for a long time.

Why Choose Hearing Healthcare Center?

Being an independent practice means that we carry hearing aids from all the major brands. That allows us to choose a hearing aid that’s right for you, from any brand we personally believe in. If you have more severe hearing loss, we can turn to a company that specializes in powerful hearing aids. If you only have hearing loss in one ear, there are companies that make excellent hearing aids specifically for that situation.

We’ll talk to you about your hearing loss, your lifestyle, and your budget, and based on those factors, we will go over your options with you so you can make an educated decision that will be right for you. There aren’t really any bad choices; modern hearing aids are all far more powerful, comfortable, and convenient than ever before, so the most important part of choosing hearing aids is determining what an individual patient needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the benefits of hearing aids?

General Health

There are 48 million people throughout the country suffering from hearing loss. Of those people, only 20 percent who can benefit from the use of a hearing aid actually wears them. It turns out, living with untreated hearing loss can do more damage than originally thought and those who seek treatment see improvements in all aspects of their lives. Individuals who choose to treat their hearing loss with hearing aids are known to have better overall health, professional success and emotional well-being than those who don’t.

Improved Mental Health

Adults with untreated hearing loss are more likely to report emotional loneliness/a lack of perceived emotional support.

Improved Cognitive Health

Hearing aid use can improve working memory performance in adults, compared to not using hearing aids.

Improved Physical Health

Individuals with untreated hearing loss are three times more likely to suffer physical injuries, specifically falls.

Improved Balance

Individuals that use a hearing device to treat their hearing loss may also see an improvement in their balance.

Are there different styles of hearing aids?
Hearing aids come in several common styles:
  • Completely-in-the-canal (CIC): The most subtle, nearly invisible option. Most suitable for people with mild hearing loss and who are comfortable with delicate instruments.
  • In-the-canal (ITC): Hidden, discreet, and somewhat more durable and easier to handle than the CIC.
  • In-the-ear (ITE): Similar to CIC and ITC but suitable for more moderate to severe hearing loss.
  • Behind-the-ear (BTE): Sturdy, easy to maintain, and suitable for more severe hearing loss.
  • Receiver-in-canal (RIC): Comfortable, subtle, and with some of the best sound quality.

Many patients enjoy the RIC models for their acoustic quality and greater comfort, since the bulk of the hearing aid’s “brain” is located in a case behind your ear rather than actually inside the ear itself; only the receiver itself actually goes into your ear. Another advantage of the RIC models is that they can be more easily updated if your hearing loss worsens and you need more powerful technology.

What are the latest advances in hearing aid technology?

Hearing aid technology has improved significantly over the years. Here are just a few of the reasons to utilize today’s devices:

  • Hearing aids feature advanced noise reduction and feedback controls
  • Most hearing aids feature wireless connectivity to phones, TVs, and more
  • Many hearing aids provide tinnitus masking support to soothe ringing/buzzing/humming in the ears
  • Many devices are water and sweat resistant to aid in your active lifestyle
  • Some devices are rechargeable, and don’t require battery changes nearly as often
  • Hearing technology comes in a variety of styles including nearly-invisible options
  • Hearing aids can communicate with each other to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in complex listening situations
  • … and much more!
How do hearing aids work?

Hearing aids work by picking up sounds from the environment, processing them, and delivering them to your ears. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. Microphone: A microphone on the hearing aid picks up sounds from the environment.
  2. Processor: The sounds are then processed by a digital chip, which filters out background noise and amplifies the desired sounds.
  3. Speaker: The amplified sounds are delivered to your ears through a speaker or receiver.

Hearing aids can be customized to your specific hearing needs, and they can significantly improve your ability to hear and understand speech, especially in noisy environments.

Will a hearing aid work with a smartphone?

Many modern hearing aids are compatible with smartphones. This can allow you to adjust your hearing aid settings, stream music or phone calls directly to your hearing aids, and even track your hearing health.

Maintenance & Repair

Redux Hearing Restoration

It’s important to bring your hearing technology in regularly for maintenance and cleaning, though there’s another potential hindrance that might result from repeated use or exposure to the elements: moisture.

Modern hearing aids are like tiny computers. As with any electronic device, we want to keep them dry. The Redux system is more than just a passive desiccant – It warms the air to encourage evaporation then draws the moisture out of the air with a vacuum, all in about 12 minutes!

Want to Learn More?

We offer drying packages to use at your convenience. Whether it’s an emergency after a swim, monthly summer care, or a routine quarterly treatment … let us help you protect your hearing aid investment. (Also works well for ear buds!)

How Redux Works

Redux works to remove air pressure from your hearing aid’s chamber through a tested and tried vacuum system, which allows any remaining moisture to evaporate during the procedure.

Redux is a safe, effective and scientifically proven solution to keep your hearing aids up and running for the long haul. It’s used nationwide to help restore many hearing aids and, in some cases, even cell phone and tablet technology.
